Vicksburg Community Schools strive to meet the District's vision to graduate all of their students as college and career ready. The curriculum supports principals and teachers in identifying resources for teaching, supports strong instructional practices through trainings, and monitors the impact of the curriculum and teaching using national, state, and local assessments.

The curriculum is focused on the following questions:

  1. What do we want all students to know and be able to do? (curriculum)
  2. What are the most effective ways to support all students in learning the curriculum? (instruction)
  3. How do we know if students have learned the curriculum? (assessment)
  4. What do we do if students do not learn the curriculum? (intervention)

Vicksburg Community Schools adopted the state and national standards approved by the Michigan Department of Education and the state legislators as the District curriculum:

Educational Supports and Intervention (Formerly Special Education)

The Department of Educational Supports and Intervention is responsible for providing a multitude of services beyond what general education programs provide. Services are available for students with special needs residing within the Southern Services Area (SSA) in Kalamazoo County. We proudly serve students in Portage, Vicksburg and Schoolcraft schools. We encourage families with questions to reach out to their child’s school, or to our department staff who stand ready to help. For more information see the SSA Website.
