Outstanding Seniors Honored

Outstanding seniors

Vicksburg High School graduating seniors were honored by KRESA for their involvement in Career and Technical Education (CTE), Education for the Arts (EFA) and Early/Middle College (EMA) programs.

They received the Kalamazoo RESA Outstanding Senior Awards 

Those students were also honored at the May VCS School Board meeting.

Karsen Brown was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner for the CTE Accounting program. She also received a scholarship from the KRESA Foundation, Larry & Rose Wile fund. Karsen plans to study Pre-Dental at Grand Valley State University. 

Maci Crabtree was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner for the CTE Law Enforcement II Program. She received a scholarship from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Maci plans to study criminal justice there before attending the police academy. 

Kieran Garrison was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner for the CTE Work-Based Learning Program. He received the World of Work Scholarship and plans to enter the workforce in welding or manufacturing. 

Haylee Goodall was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner for the CTE Computerized Manufacturing and Mechatronics. She received a scholarship from the KRESA Foundation and MIller-Davis. Haylee plans to attend Michigan Technological University to study Mechatronics.

Kayla Miller was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner in the CTE Law Enforcement II Program. She also received the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, which celebrates the outstanding contributions of women in our community who demonstrate leadership and service to the community. Kayla received a scholarship from the Kalamazoo Area Retired School Personnel. She plans to attend Winona State where she will study criminal justice. 

Isabella Pence was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner in the CTE Wildlife and Natural Resources program.She also received a scholarship from Kalamazoo Valley Community College where she plans to study finance and business.

Maddox Porter was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner in the CTE Personal Finance and Marketing program. He also received a scholarship from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He plans to attend KVCC to study film and video production.

Samuel Schnepp was the Outstanding Senior Award Winner in the CTE Computerized Manufacturing II program. He received a scholarship from the Kalamazoo Area Retired School Personnel. Samuel plans to attend Western Michigan University to study mechanical engineering. 

Three other students were also honored at the school board meeting.

Vicksburg High School junior, Autumn Molnar Houts, received the Michigan Department of Education's Office of Career and Technical Education's 2022 Breaking Traditions Award.The recognition is given to students who are successful in Career and Technical Education (CTE) program areas that are nontraditional for their gender.Autumn has been in the Computerized Manufacturing and Mechatronics classes at VCS for 3 years. She was nominated by her teacher, Lorrie Jancarz, who says Autumn never turns down a challenge!

Keannen Miller received the DAR “Good Citizen of the Year Award.” Each year, the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsor the DAR Good Citizenship   Award. A senior is selected by his or her classmates and faculty for this award. The criteria for the award are dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Keannen has won numerous academic awards and is a member of the varsity football and basketball teams at VHS, he is also involved in peer-2-peer.

Kendall Buchanan received the Principals Leadership Award. The Principals Leadership Award will be awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates a commitment to making VHS a better place, demonstrates outstanding school spirit, and demonstrates high charter and integrity on a daily basis.  Kendall is the vice-president of NHS, a member of the student senate, and a member of the Big Red Machine.
