Meal fees begin October 1st, pending state budget update

Beginning Wednesday, October 1st, families who do not otherwise qualify for meal benefits will be charged for meals, pending finalization of a state budget in Lansing.
For the last two school years, Vicksburg Community Schools has used the free Michigan School Meals funding from the State of Michigan to provide free breakfast and lunch for all students. On September 30, 2025 the funding for that program will expire and the status of the funding for the new fiscal year has not yet been determined.
Meals will be free for those students who qualify for Reduced-Price meals as the District will cover the remaining cost from our Food Service fund.
Families who qualify for Federal Free & Reduced Price Meals are encouraged to apply today. The application only takes a few minutes to complete, and your information will be kept safe and confidential. These forms are not only used to make sure students who need free and reduced meals get them, but they are also used to determine funding for several VCS programs. Every application that is not submitted means lost educational programs and resources for our students.
Please log into your Family Portal and click on the “apply for benefits” button to complete the form.
If the budget is not finalized with school meal funding by the end of September, the price of meals beginning October first, will be:
$1.50 for breakfast K-12
$2.75 for lunch K-5
$3.00 for Lunch 6-12
